internship in the Dance to Unite TeAching method program

Assistant Teachers

Dance to Unite provides the opportunity to train, at no cost, in the Dance to Unite Teaching Method and gain the skill to become a Dance to Unite Teaching Artist in NYC public schools!

At the beginning of each school year, Dance to Unite Assistant Teachers are carefully selected to be part of our non paid internship program based on the following criteria:

  • Assess potential intern's passion for our mission.

  • Background in dance (can be basic).

  • Experience in teaching children (not a necessity but a plus).

  • Availability to commit to one hour a week (during the after-school hours), on a weekday, from October to June.

  • Physical proximity to a matched school (no longer than 20-30 minutes commute to school).

  • Assessment of reliability (showing up for orientation, follow-up email with schedule and feedback after orientation to make sure potential intern is a fit).

After selection, potential interns will sign the Dance to Unite Teacher Guidelines document.

After one year of training as a Dance to Unite Assistant Teacher Intern, those who are a fit and are available can progress to the Lead Teacher position in our Accelerator Internship Program, which upon completion can lead to a paid position as a Teaching Artist.

Assistant and Lead Teacher Interns receive:

  • The Dance to Unite Teaching Method training which focuses on Social Emotional Learning (SEL) education, weaved into unique dance instruction for children. Training provides: professional development workshops, class observation feedback and one on one coaching.

  • Practical experience teaching in NYC public schools

  • MetroCard reimbursement

  • Opportunities to fulfill high school or college requirements for volunteer work and/or special projects
